Following on from the sale last August of part of Mr. William Battersby’s collection, a second auction of books will take place at Oliver Usher’s Auction Rooms, John Street, Kells, Co. Meath on Monday December 12th at 11am.

Saturday 10th December, 11am –  6pm

Sunday 11th December, 11am  – 6pm

Morning of sale from 9.30am

Late of Cannon Row, Navan, Co. Meath, Mr. Battersby was well known throughout his life as a writer and collector. He would frequently be seen attending events in Meath, Dublin and the surrounding counties, accompanied by a bag filled to bursting point with information and books. Only when he passed away in the Autumn 2010 was it revealed just how vast and diverse his collection was.

This will be the second sale of Mr. Battersby’s collection. Books that cover topics from Irish language to religion, art & design to agriculture, poetry, mythology, archaeology and travel are all included in this auction.

Aside from the hundreds of books unearthed, there are also papers from the North County Dublin Holm-Patrick Estate, Headfort Estate in Kells, postcards of local and historical interest, advertising memorabilia, Irish political ephemera, theatre programmes, Guinness souvenirs, newspaper supplements, stamps, old receipts and log books.

He wrote a number of books including ‘The Age of Newgrange’ (1997), ‘The Hospitallers at Kilmainham, Kells’ (1996), and ‘The Book of Kells, A New Look’ (1995) a selection of which will also feature in the sale.

This auction contains items that will, no doubt, appeal to just about everyone.

Our next general sale will take place in January 2012.
